Let me start off by saying I’m pretty sure the piping in my roommates house is bad to begin with. The shower drain would get clogged every month or two. I would use products like liquid plumbr that would help but the problem would come back in about 1-3 months. I bought this product in Sept. 2018. It worked great for about 6 months. It caught all the human and cat hair from going down the drain. It also catches a lot of soap scum and at times can slow down water drainage because of this. Doesn’t happen with all soaps, but certain soaps and shampoos kind of get stuck in the holes and cause water to drain slower. I noticed back around May/June of this year, my drain started clogging up/draining slowly again. I think it’s because all of the disgusting black build up that is on the inside of all the holes and the entire bottom of the TubShroom. I think this has slowed water drainage enough for me to notice a puddle while I’m showering. As time has went on, the build up has gotten worse. I would clean this every week why is it getting so black everywhere? There is no way to clean off this black grime, I’ve tried, and it’s disgusting. I think i’ll be replacing this with a metal hair strainer instead. While it works for a time, the amount of time it takes to clean this thing in order to avoid build up isn’t worth it in the end. It is that reason that I would not recommend this product. This product is only good if you are planning on throwing it away in a few months to a year, but not good for long-term use due to the grime build up.

My tub/shower drain stopper broke and was going to cost $200-600 to replace as the entire drain and pipe connections had to be removed and replaced. That was not in my budget and I searched for an alternative to the black hole that had become my drain.

This inexpensive little TubShroom drain protector and hair catcher dropped right down into the ‘black hole’, stayed in place, looked nice (white against my white tub/shower) and works great! The water drains out (no pooling and creating a small lake in my tub as I shower, with the hair caught around Tubshroom. After showering, I remove the Tubshroom (it just lifts right out), pull off the hair and toss is in the wastebasket, and drop the Tubshroom back into the drain hole.

I haven’t had any hair clogs since using the Tubshroom and the little guy can be easily cleaned and freshened up. It Works! For those of you who are wondering, NO the Tubshroom is not a cork – you cannot take a bath with it in place. It will NOT keep the tub from draining.

i’ve seen similar reviews about the same issue(s). Overall, this product is great at doing what it says, catching hair in the tub. However, it backs up so frequently that we have standing water happen about twice a week. While we can quickly get the hair off of it to fix the water back-up problem, my “green” tub-shroom has quickly turned more like a darkish black/forest-green/mold color in the holes themselves. I have sat and banged it against the tub, ran it under the tub faucet, hit it with the power stream from the hand-held shower head, just about everything, and those mold rings in the holes themselves cling as powerfully as ever. Because those are IN the drain, it’s not a huge deal or eye-sore, it’s just the knowledge and frustration that they are there and cause it to back-up so much faster. I think I will run it through a dishwasher cycle in the top-rack and see what happens.

Let’s cut to the chase. While I like this product and I would recommend it the advertisement is a bunch of bull.

I have owned this product for a few weeks. I have a little over shoulder length curly thick hair. (in case you were wondering) I tested it for a week because I wanted to give it a good amount of time to give myself an unbiased opinion.

The advertisement shows hair going down the drain and getting caught in the TubShroom BUT doesn’t show hair with hair product, soap, or dirt and oils from your body. The mixture of these things actually does cause a bit of a drainage problem and after about a few days of use water began to collect at the bottom of my tub. My husband actually took it out while he showered at one point so he didn’t have to stand in it. So I suggest changing it out every few days and not a week.

Cleaning is also a bit difficult. Because most people shower at least once a day the TubShroom is always wet. In the ads they clean it while the hair is completely dry so it just slides right off. Well the hair product and in my case my husbands alternating shower schedule with mine keeps it wet making it a bit harder to “Remove the hair with one effortless move.”

After cleaning it I rinsed mine off with hot water and a little bit of Dawn dish soap to get off the hair product and all the other grimey stuff off. I’ve since put it back and have found a good schedule as far as cleaning it goes and haven’t had any drainage problems since.

It’s a good product and I do recommend it but I do suggest considering the things that I’ve mentioned.

I shed so much hair and it has always been an issue when it comes to showering! I used to try to catch the hairs before it went to the drain in which I would later have to clean once clogged, and now I encourage and move them towards the drain and my TubShroom! It truly is amazing and the silicone material allows it to not rust like the old metal tub sink screens. It makes cleaning so much easier and I am amazed every time. It even caught my dogs hair and he has short thin hairs!!! Highly highly recommend this to every home. If you found this review helpful, please let me know!! Thank you and hopefully you too can enjoy a Tubshroom. I’m planning on buying one for every sink in the house since they also have it for sinks as well as tubs!!!

I tried to find the answer to my question before I purchased. I thought I would try it and take the risk. Unfortunately, it does not work in my tub. If you have a pop-up drain with a post inside, it will not work. I thought since it was open on the bottom that I could slide it over. The TubShroom is not wide enough for that. Hope I can save some else the $12 before they take the chance.

I used to have to throw out expensive hair traps that sit over top of the drain after only a few weeks because you could never really get them fully clean. The soap scum and whatnot would accumulate in all the little hair-trap holes and no matter how hard you scrubbed, the thing gets cloudy, gunky, stained, and ugly-looking.

Not this thing! The genius is that the hair and scum get wrapped around the tubular part that sits – invisibly – down inside the drain. Yes, your drain will get slow after about 10 showers or so and you need to remove the hair, clear away as much of the gunk as possible. But you don’t have to worry about getting it all, just most of it. Why spend time and elbow grease really cleaning something like this just to avoid having something ugly down in your shower? This takes care of it; the top stays clean and it’s all you ever see. No offensive soap-scum. The lower part may get stained, but you only see it when you’re cleaning it.

I found that this does NOT slow my drain appreciably when it has been recently cleaned. I love that it’s soft and doesn’t hurt toes if stepped on or kicked. I love that I only have to clear away hair and not worry about cleaning the thing for presentation’s sake; I can just wipe the hair away and put it back, done. Buy one for every bathroom and one of the sink ones for every sink in your house.

Update #2: 2.5 years later and I’ve only had to unclog the drain once, and I believe it was just because of soap scum.
Update: more than a year later and I have yet to have to unclog the drain!
I am one of those people who clogs the shower drains with my hair. It got to the point where I brushed my hair well before getting in and then kept a brush in the shower to wrap the excess hair in while shampooing, and would STILL clog the drain every 6 weeks or so. I’ve had this about 2 months now and thought I’d really test it out by no longer brushing my hair before or during the shower. No clogs! It’s amazing how much this thing catches considering it’s this cheap looking piece of rubber that doesn’t even fit well. I will say, it’s much easier (and a lot less slimy) to clean when dry. And the loose fit (& lightweight) means sometimes my cat thinks he can play with it again and I’ll find it in the bedroom floor. I tell everyone I know about this thing.

Good lord I am a shedder. This product does a great job of catching my hair. Removing hair from it and putting it in the trash can is easy but not pleasant. Little gross.
There are things in a marriage which could be classified as “should dos” and “must dos” if you agree upon them before hand. I love cats. It my husband doesn’t but he agreed we could have 3 cats if I cleaned the litter every day. I agreed to empty tub shroom of hair at least weekly. These are “must dos” since I agreed to them. There are other things that are should dos but you just don’t feel like it. Then, if your husband starts doing those things him self the tub shroom develops a problem. If more than a week goes by of me doing neither the must or the should dos then the tub shroom becomes an impermeable cylinder of hair/soap/man goo that resembles a tiny plaster cast.
So, this product, like men, are more functional if serviced at least once a week.

AMAZING! A must have for families with long shedding hair!!

Doesn’t fit snug in my tub drain but fits well enough. Once a month I used to have to use chemicals to declog our shower drain as the amount of hair coming from my long hair and my teenage daughters made it so the shower would clog up and provide us with three to four inches of standing water. It was a real pain in the butt, a constant added expense, and made the tub constantly feel and look dirty. I bought this hoping it would catch the hair as advertised causing the drain to not clog. This tiny little device is a true miracle!!! We’ve been using it for almost 3 months now and I have yet to need to use chemicals 2 declogged pipes as we have ZERO clogs!! I do have to remove the plug everyday to remove the hair that has collected otherwise the tub will not drain. Cleaning the plug is a nasty job as you can imagine hair soap scum Etc. The only true negative that I have found is that the in side of the plug is hard to clean as the soap scum collects to it and using a tissue simply won’t clean it. About once a week I have to go in with a pipe cleaner or bottle brush to clean and sanitize the inside of the plug cylinder.

***update*** its been about 6 months or so and I just purchased a new poo be. The original got too nasty. These are really hard to clean and clog up with soap scum, body fluids etc quickly. After a while its time to toss and replace. Still even with replacing 2 times a year its a bargain compared to using chemicals 4 + times a year! Product works great and I still give it 5 stars.I just wish it was easier to clean!

No seriously – this is amazing. I have long hair and recently had a baby. It’s a wonder I still have any hair based on the clumps I see falling out on a regular basis. This means the poor tub drain is getting clogged every time we turn around, and we’re spending ridiculous amounts of time with that spiky stick thing you shove down there and then pull out over and over. I figured if this even worked to catch half of my hair then it would be worth its salt. Holy moly. When they say it catches every hair they aren’t kidding. We clean it off about twice A WEEK! And when they say it’s easy to clean, they are right again. A swipe with toilet paper and the hair blob comes right off to be flushed down the toilet. I’ve already told so many people about this product because I love it so much. Fantastic!!!
